Introduction to Paragliding Course

The Introduction to Paragliding Course is the first step of learning paragliding. It is a flight lesson which introduces you to your instructor and to basic early concepts of flying a paraglider. It is also designed to give you a look into what the training is like before moving onto the APPI 1 course. Students will fly with an instructor on an instructional tandem flight and be given the controls to experience what it is like to fly a paraglider, these concepts will be important later on in the APPI 1 course.

This course is meant for students who wish to eventually enroll into the APPI 1 course. It is a chance for the student to understand what flying a paraglider is like and what training is required. Learning paragliding can be fun, but it also requires a lot of commitment and hard work. Take this chance to get to know your instructor and decide whether it is a good fit for your needs.

Description:

  • The training includes basic theoretical knowledge of how a paraglider flies, how the weather affects flying, and what training is required to become a solo pilot

  • Students will then fly in tandem with an instructor to experience the full takeoff, flight, and landing procedures. (flight times depend on weather conditions)

  • The Introduction Course tandem is a flight lesson, it is not just a joy ride. it is meant for students who want to experience what it is like to actually fly a paraglider. These concepts are important to learn before moving onto the APPI 1 course.

Optional ground handling lesson:

  • Learn how to prepare, inflate, and control the glider to experience what it is like to train in Hong Kong. It is a chance to decide whether you truly wish to learn paragliding and enter this lifestyle.

  • Students who wish to enter the APPI 1 course must complete a ground handling session.

  • Typically we will provide equipment for our Introduction Course - Ground Handling if you are between 55-92 Kg AND between 155 - 180 cm (Harness, Wing, Helmet).

Tandem Flight

Students will then fly in tandem with their instructor to experience first hand what it is like to fly a paraglider. Your instructor will guide you on basic maneuvers such as how to turn, pitch, accelerate/decelerate.

Other subjects may be discussed as well depending on flying conditions and topic opportunities.

The main goal, of course, is to give students a clear understanding of the training in order to make a decision as to whether they would like to commit to a full paragliding course.

Ground Handling Lesson

In the ground handling session, your instructor will teach you how to prepare, inflate and control the glider on the ground. Ground handling is a major part of learning how to paraglide. This portion of the training allows you to experience what it needed to learn how to fly.
